Amazon invests another $5B in Anthropic, which commits $100B+ to AWS over 10 years, locking in Trainium chip access through future generations.
Amazon has agreed to invest an additional $5 billion in Anthropic, bringing its total stake to $13 billion. In return, Anthropic committed to spending over $100 billion on AWS over the next decade, securing up to 5 GW of compute. The deal includes access to Trainium2 through Trainium4 chips — including chips not yet available — and mirrors Amazon's recent $50B investment in OpenAI's $110B round. Anthropic is also reportedly fielding VC offers that would value it at $800 billion or more.
This deal means Claude's training and inference are deeply tied to AWS Trainium for the foreseeable future. Developers building on Claude via API won't feel immediate change, but long-term latency, pricing, and availability are now structurally linked to AWS capacity and Trainium roadmap. If you're multi-cloud or running on Azure/GCP, this is a signal that Claude's best performance and pricing will likely favor AWS-native deployments.
If you're calling the Claude API today, benchmark current response latency and cost, then check if AWS Bedrock's Claude endpoint outperforms your current setup — Anthropic's infrastructure incentives now favor Bedrock customers.
Open your AWS console and navigate to Amazon Bedrock > Model access > Enable Claude 3.5 Sonnet
