Runway is investing $10M in early-stage AI startups and offering free API credits to seed–Series C companies building on its video intelligence platform.
Runway, best known for AI video generation tools, has launched a $10 million venture fund targeting startups in AI, media, and world simulation. Alongside the fund, the company is rolling out a 'Builders program' offering free API credits to startups from seed through Series C. The initiative is tied to Runway's broader pivot toward 'general world models' and 'video intelligence,' announced last December. Runway co-founder Alejandro Matamala-Ortiz framed this as building an ecosystem around use cases the company cannot pursue internally.
Runway is opening its video generation and world model APIs to startups via free credits, which means developers can experiment with video intelligence infrastructure at zero cost. This is not just about text-to-video — Runway's general world model ambitions suggest simulation and spatial reasoning APIs are coming. Early builders on this stack could gain disproportionate familiarity with capabilities before they're widely commoditized.
Apply to Runway's Builders program this week and benchmark Runway's Gen-3 API against your current video generation pipeline — specifically test latency and output quality on a task you'd actually ship, like automated ad rendering or scene simulation.
